ITALIAN OASES

From more than 40 years, the WWF protects more than 100 oases in Italy. Oases have a basic role in environmental education and science research. WWF oases represent a new world, different from what we live in: places where there isn’t space for traffic, smog and pollution. In WWF oases you can admire all kinds of natural environments of our country. Thanks to the WWF, areas and many species of animals and plants, that otherwise would not exist anymore, survive.

OASES OF WILDLIFE PROTECTION OF SAN VITO The oasis of “San Vito Arcofiato”, is situated in a hilly area near Macerata, with peaks that arrive at 700 metres above sea level. The wildlife is typically forest: we can find foxes, boars, and badgers. In the woods it is possible to observe squirrels, deers or fitches. There are many birds that come to this area belonging to the family of hawks, such as the pern, the hobby and the harrier eagle. The area is also an area where the wolf can be met. Details of this territory include the oak trees than enrich the beautiful landscape mosaics.

WILDLIFE PROTECTION OASIS OF POLVERINA

The Animal Sanctuary of Polverina is located on the edge of the Sibillini Mountains National park in a hilly zone, in the reservoir of Chienti. In the oasis, during the migration period, we can observe the passage of the rare osprey, the marsh harrier and the passage of flocks of cranes. The vegetation of the humid climate is also fantastic, in relation to the quantity and the typology of the water.

WILDLIFE PROTECTION OASIS OF PORTO POTENZA PICENA

The Porto Potenza oasis is situated in a zone between the coast and the highway A14 in the municipality of Potenza Picena. The oasis is very important for flora. The oasis is situated in a strategic area which allows the presence of a large variety of species of birds: in winter time the area is visited by grebes, and by anatidae (duck, swam, goose) in Spring and Summer time.

OASIS RIPA BIANCA OF JESI A stretch of land along the river Esino and a small lake form the oasis of Jesi. The typical agricultural landscape of The Marches made up of natural elements forms the remaining territory which gives the oasis the name of Ripa Bianca. Because of various anthropogenic interferences, the original vegetation has undergone a profound alteration. Nowadays in this area we can notice three species of oak and extensive willow trees. A farmhouse houses the CEA ( Environmental Education Centre) with its didactic rooms where you can find information about the environment and agriculture of the area. You can also find a specialized library, a didactic laboratory of chemistry and a conference hall. There is also a Green Room, the garden of the butterflies, a faunal area of turtles and of ducks.
