Schnepfenthal is a traditional location for schools and is considered to be a jewel in the history of civilisation in Thuringia. The important educator Christian Gotthilf Salzmann founded the educational institution in Schnepfenthal in 1784 and within some decades the philanthropic school developed into one of the most respectable schools in Europe. It is located on a hill surrounded by forests and meadows. The historical main buildings, a former riding hall, the first German gymnastic ground created by Johann Christoph Friedrich GutsMuths, a park and orchards belong to its campus. - Spanish, French or Italian in Year 8
- Russian in Year 9.

Since 2008 pupils can attend the newly built boarding part of the school.

Many events and assemblies take place at the school canteen
