Our school I.E.S Josep Miquel Guàrdia participates in the activity `The image of the other´,which consists of exchanging letters between pupils from most of the participating countries in our project.

In our case ,the pupils of 2nd ESO write letters in English to Holland,Wales and France, and some of them also write letters in Spanish to French pupils. All pupils of 3r ESO exchange letters in Spanish with pupils from Germany,Italy and France. Finally, all the pupils of 4t ESO D, write letters in English to pupils from Italy and all the pupils who study German in 3rESO and 4tESO exchange letters in German with Italian pupils.

In this academic year we have to write 5 letters. We introduced ourselves in our first letter and exchanged a Christmas card for Christmas. In the third letter we have to write about our hobbies ; next one is about a trip or a nice holiday we have made and the last one is about our plans for the summer and the farewell.

We think this activity is motivating to meet people from other countries and get to know their cultures. As we are the same age more or less as well as our penpals, this activity helps as to know about their way of life, customs, hobbies and so on. Moreover some pupils who exchange letters, communicate with their partners by facebook or email and can become friends. However, when we write the letters in English it is difficult because it isn´t our mother tongue but we can learn and improve English.

In conclusion,we enjoy this activity because it is fun, motivating and exciting. It is a good idea and we hope to exchange letters with other European pupils next year.
