“Tsiknopempti” is a special celebration for Greek orthodox people. This year we celebrated this day on Thursday 24th of February. Tsiknopempti stands for the day “Thursday” and the fact that people mainly eat grilled meat this day. The word “tsikna” is the smell of the grilled meat.

In addition to that, this celebration can be associated with the famous “Halloween” up to a point. Everyone, but especially children, dresses up, goes out, has fun and wanders downtown. Our city looks full of life this day.

However, this year we have celebrated this day at school as well. We dressed up and after having the permission of our head-mistress, we organized everything. We had barbeque in our schoolyard; we ate and had fun with our professors, too. We sang famous songs and danced traditional dances for hours.

We all took pictures to remember that day as we had honestly had a great time. It was without a doubt a break from our everyday school problems!
