VALENCIA AND...MORE

(Travelling)

Wednesday 19 May 2010, by Maria Luisa VIOLINI

In this article I am going to tell you about my experience in Valencia. A school trip of one week that thanks to the Volcano’s ashes turned into 12 days of stay. I had a great time in Spain with my friends. We left from Bologna on 11th April 2010, we were happy to have a such great opportunity to enjoy ourselves abroad in a city like Valencia. We arriverd at Valencia’s airport at midday and after that we immediately went to our host family. I stayed with my classmate Alessandro and the owner of the house was very kind and funny. She is a woman, her name’s Rosa and she is 60 years old, she lives with a very small black dog, in a little house. We spent the first day relaxing ourselves because we were very tired for the stressfull journey. The day after we went to the school where we had to attend a course for the whole week. The teachers showed us the school , then we started the lesson. The Spanish course was very nice: it was divided into two parts. The first part consisted in studying books, but the second one was very strange because we had to interview people along the street about Spanish culture. It was very funny because we met a lot of nice people. In the evening we went for a walk around the town: it’s amazing, above all I liked “Plaza de Toros” and “Plaza de l’Ajuntamient”. The days after were very similar to the first one: in the morning we went to school and in the evening we went to visit some museums, like “Museo Fallero” or that of “Modern Art” but we didn’t like it at all. At night we went out some times, but we could not come back very late because our teachers thought Valencia by night was quite dangerous. When Sunday arrived, it was time to leave but...The Volcano of Iceland erupted and everybody knows the damage it caused. At the beginning we were a little upset because our departure had been postponed ,but now I can say that the days we were forced to stay there were the most beautiful. First of all there were not lessons in the morning so we went to the beach and we visited different places that we couldn’t visit before. Another positive aspect is that thanks to this stay we had the opportunity to know each other better. Our group in fact was made up of 18 students from different classes and different age. These extra days allowed us to become closer. We came back home on 23rd April, we were very tired but extremely happy and we knew that we would miss Valencia for a long time.
